'Investigating stage hypnosis', 9 Aug 2008
What a load of old c*bblers, this book should be in the 'fantasy' section.
I was looking forward to this book, but upon reading it, was sadly disappointed.
The book is written by a woman who's daughter unexpectedly died. She then came up with the idea that it might have something to do with a hypnotic show that her daughter had been in a few nights previously. At this show, she says that her daughter had been hypnotised and, amongst others on stage, had performed some entertaining routines for the audience.
Having decided, (seemingly without any evidence), that the hypnotist must be guilty, she then has then scoured the globe for any little titbits of information that she can find to add together in this book in an attempt to discredit all stage hypnotists everywhere.
My problem with this book is the complete lack of any real evidence for anything that the author asserts. The book is filled with her own opinions and guesswork, but hard facts are very few and far between, and her wilfull attempts to manipulate the reader into believing her own (hateful) point of view about stage hypnosis are obvious on every page.
The author also mentions that she was sued by Paul McKenna at one point, and it appears to me that this book is actually more the result of her own personal vendetta, then a work containing anything like an objective overview of this topic.
She also, rather conveniently, forgets to mention the recent landmark lawsuit relating to stage hypnosis, where the High Court declared that stage hypnosis was 'safe', and could not harm anyone.
I also have to say that, in my opinion, the author comes across as rather strange herself, and I was really put off by her touting of the main body of her work, which, she states proudly, is all focused on transexuals ???
Now, come to think of it, when I look at her photo more closely.......

Katrina fox has somehow managed to fit every little bit of stage hypnosis into this book, The book although is good value for money leaves a bit of doubt on some topics while overexplaining others. Having studied this book with a colleuge we both came up with the same analysase thatit left to many things to guesswork overall it gives a good view of stage hypnosis and is worth the read.
