The best place to start looking for Cruise or Yachting jobs, 11 Jul 2001
Comprehensive, is probably the best way to describe this surprisingly accessible book. The book covers everything you need to know to get started, from interview tips and letters of application through detailed lists of the types of work actually available on cruise ships. I enjoyed the book and keep it as an essential reference in my work as a careers adviser working with adults. However, I do have a few small niggles which meant that I rated this as four rather than five star. The CV format they recommend is not really up to it, the format is dull as ditchwater, and is highly unlikely to sell anyone, I would recommend anyone interested in drawing up a CV which will sell them to a potential employer (especially if it is one based in the States) to have a look at the'Damn good resume' site. The book itself is filled with pictures of people working on the ships, and I am at a loss to know what function they serve, photos of a fitness trainer add nothing to the sum of knowledge gained, but they do fill up space. The same goes for the jokey 'incident report' on page 201. All that said, the comprehensive list of addresses for cruise lines, ferry companies and agencies has to be worth the cost of the book alone. Happy cruising and good luck
