From the Publisher
First volume of Tennant family historyThis is the first volume of Tennant family history, who did so much to shape industrial Neath and Swansea. Much of the heritage of George Tennant, an enegetic entrepreneur, remains. His name is memorialised in the Port Tennant district of Swansea; the impressive Aberdulais aqueduct still stands, and the canal that he cut atill marks the landscape. Until now history has not fairly recorded these achievements, Keith Tucker's book puts this to right. In time more volumes will follow about this visionary family.
One of the many fascinating features of this book is its title. What does it mean? One thing that George Tennant did was to write 'A Narrative' which in his words sets down everything he had been involved with in his project. Towards the end of it he says, "Seeing some prospect of a reasonable return for it (his money) even in his time - and perhaps now and then indulging a secret vanity that his name might hereafter be remembered in Glamorganshire as one who had caused a scratch to be made upon its future map by digging holes which nobody would take the trouble of filling up again."
This book contains much information prevoiusly unpublished in any form, some of which is in facsimile format. This includes 'A Narrative' of which only two originals are currently known to be in existance.
