Synopsis
The Shinji Shobogenzo is an essential collection that encompasses many of the well-known koan stories, with many interesting and less familier ones, together with the comments of a contemporary Buddhist master renowned for his clear and no-nonsense approach. Zen master Dogen collected these stories during a four year stay in China and then used many of them as the basis for his formal lectures in his major work, the Shobogenzo. The stories were originally written in Chinese and they are records of conversations between Buddhist masters and their students from the golden age of Zen learning and practice in China.
