4.0 out of 5 stars the London and Birmingham railway Between Birmingham and Coventry., 15 May 2006
By A. E. Savage "pitmonster03" (united kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
An excellent history of the old London and Birmingham route from Birmingham to Coventry, besides the history of this line, the book also discusses aspects of this railway for example: Rolling stock, Locomotives and the Stations-Hampton in Arden, Berkswell, Tile hill and Canley. there are detailed books about Curzon St and New Street stations available, but they are touched briefly. Toward the end of this book, the author discusses the lines main fault which is intense overcrowding, the aborted LMS scheme to quadruple the Birmingham-Rugby section of the W.C.M.L. And hopefully this will start the ball rolling and draw attention to a badly-needed track quadrupling scheme to make this route viable for the future. well written and well illustrated, highly recommended!
