5.0 out of 5 stars Jamie OKeefe has done it again.., 17 Nov 1998
By A Customer
An in-depth study of a previously untouched subject. Done by the way of interviews with Martial Artists, Soldiers, Professional Boxers, Bouncers, etc. The insight gained in reading these experts views in trying to fully answer Jamie's deep and thought provoking questions, make this a book value at twice the price. Who hasn't questioned their own toughness or lack of it?...Who has ever answered these questions before? Now you can read the answers and understand the ways in which 'fighters' understand toughness, and what it means to them. Jamie is one of the very few Authors who can make the marriage between the martial arts/Self Defence and Society, work well. Read this, or in fact any of Jamie's books, and questions you have asked of yourself or others, are answered in a unique and honest way. One of my very favourite books...and of many others too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do you want to be tougher ?, 7 Nov 1998
By A Customer
Probably the main reason people begin the study of combat arts is to attain a higher level of self-defence ability , or to put it bluntly , they want to become tougher ! So many believe that a black belt or a bigger physique will make them tougher , only to find that once they achieve those goals , the person inside is still the same .In this thought-provoking book , Jamie explores the real nature of toughness ; what it is and how it can be achieved . The fascinating interviews provide real insight into the minds of 'tough' men and how they deal with tough situations . There is no macho bull here , the interviewees give honest and often surprising answers to intelligent questions .

5.0 out of 5 stars 100% Brilliant, 17 Jan 2007
A book that inspires and entertains.
A moving story that reads like a English version of Rocky.
A book all victims should read to encourage them to stand-up to their abusers.
Also a book that all bullies should be forced to read.
I recomend this 100%
It is a classic of its kind and ranks alongside the books of Dave Courtney, the writing of Garry Bushell ( `The Face` and `Two Faced`) and also the gangster classic `Till Death Us Do Part` by Garry Jackson.
I look forward to the follow-up and now intend to read all the other books written by the same author.
