5.0 out of 5 stars A reader's reaction, 4 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Louis Rodrigues' style is at once magisterial and arresting. In this collection, which covers a subjects ranging from religion and love to politics and war, he combines powerful imagery with a fine command of language to produce verses that are at once vivid and memorable. "Heroes", for example, is a biting commentary on the soldier's lot, while "Peace" is a sensitive and provoking reflection on separation. Included are a number of high-quality translations from verse originally composed Anglo-Saxon, Catalan and Galician, presenting a rare opportunity for English-speaking readers to sample the works of such poets as Josep Carner and Rosalia de Castro.
