Sadly the restaurant hasn't withstood the test of time, but this book is a stunning reminder of the `Stones Restaurant', in the magical area of Avebury, Wiltshire, England!

`The accent throughout is on what has made `Stones Restaurant' so popular: quality, fresh ingredients, emphasising what is local and what is in season, drawing inspiration from regional cuisines around the world (not least, of course, from Britain).
So here it is. A completely new production bursting with flavour and colour - stories about food and the restaurant - help with less familiar ingredients (and for Americans and Canadians, a guide to British culinary jargon) - more original and exciting recipes with which to celebrate and entertain.
It's magic.'

I bought this book on a rare visit to Avebury. The restaurant the book relates to, Stones, was closed at the time as it was out of season. I went into the Henge gift shop there and found this wonderful cookery book. Full of mouth-watering recipes and menu plans - plus fabulous illustrations which make it look almost like a book for children. My friend loved the book so much I bought her a copy for her birthday. She has now moved to the US and loves the book because it has conversions for American readers, many of whom may have bought the book on their travels to Avebury to visit the stone circle. A magical place - a magical book. Food you might really get to cook and will definitely enjoy! It's not yer poncy wholefood stuff full of ingredients you can't find anywhere. It is just interesting recipes made from items you can find in any supermarket or greengrocer. Sauces, breads, menu plans and puddings as well as starters and main courses. A real treat!

My best friend is vegetarian and bought the book on a visit to Stones. Having looked at the book once, I knew I had to have a copy of my own. The food you can make is so tasty that you simply don't need meat. The way the recepies are written make your mouth water as you read them and you want to make them all! I now regularly recommend this book to anyone, whether they be vegetarian or not. What a shame that the fantastic restaurant that this book came from is no longer open in Avebury.
