5.0 out of 5 stars Great book if you want to build a small gas turbine, 2 Nov 2001
By A Customer
If you want to build a gas turbine then this book is for you. It gives you all the information on how to build and run the engine along with equations on working out the stresses etc. The engine can easily be built using a lathe, pillar drill and scrap metals.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book for building an engine., 20 Jan 2008
By B.Kiddo (Wolverhampton, UK) - See all my reviews
This book takes you through the methodology behind designing a gas turbine engine. Using the FD 3/64 Model Jet Turbine as a base point throughout the book takes you through types of engine, common problems associated with certain parts, the necessary equations, engine characteristics and finally to the building of the FD 3/64 Model Jet Turbine.

The author, Kurt, designed the engine specifically for at home construction using the most basic tools and materials possible. I am currently drawing and assembling the components in CAD before I make the engine. I feel this is necessary as some of the drawings in the book are not as detailed as I would like. Despite allot of written explanation, the assembly of the engine is not clear as many of the pictures are of poor black and white quality. There is however a FD3/64 Model Jet Engine Kit available for those who don't want to make the components.

I found the book an interesting read with good insight into the design and construction of a gas turbine jet engine. New version needed with better quality pictures and more detailed drawings.
