5.0 out of 5 stars A Blueprint for Gay men on their journey through life!, 23 April 1999
By A Customer
I approached this book with a degree of scepticism. So many books on assertiveness trot out the same old tired cliches about 'changing your internal dialogue'. But Terry Sanderson carefully and sensitively unpicks the web that binds so many gay men and stops them from feeling good about themselves. And THEN he goes on to identify ways to move forwards towards what will make life more satisfying for us. He issues some strong challenges - this is not a comfortable book; but perhaps the most important factor here is a sense of reality underpinning everything that he writes. This is no pie-in-the-sky advice but is evidently the result of his own life experiences.

I defy any gay man to read this book and not take SOMETHING challenging and life-affirming away with him!

1.0 out of 5 stars A relic that's lost it's relevance, 29 Oct 2000
By A Customer
Like so much of Terry Sanderson's work, this book was once a reasonably useful and interesting read. But society has moved on and the issues currently facing gay men are not addressed here. Gay men and lesbians are no longer the hard-done by victims portrayed by Sanderson and so the advice he offers, while well-meaning, is hopelessly outmoded. As a nostalgic look back to a bygone era, this book repays a read. But as a self-help tome, it's too out of date to be anything but irrelevant now.
