Product Description

Mountain Bike Rider

21 rides in the Peak District area, compiled by three local riders. There are several books covering MTBs in the Peak District, but this is definitely the best.

Book Description

Pick a ride, pack your butties and pedal. Choose from 25 easily accessible legal routes. Varying between 7 and 40 miles, each circular route has clear instructions, a sketch map and illustrations. These rides, compiled by 3 local cyclists, use tracks and bridleways through contrasting but adjacent landscapes to explore an area where upland and lowland Britain meet. Whether you prefer high gritstone moors, limestone dales or wooded parkland, one taste and you will be back for more.

2.0 out of 5 stars How to get lost in the hills!, 20 Sep 2004

I'm sure that the people who wrote this book are very good mountain bikers, and the routes must be very good for them to write about them.

However they don't work for the Ordnance Survey Office, so they got a pre-school kid to draw the maps!!

If your Ok with following written detail and don't care about a map then this is the bok for you, if not steer clear!

4.0 out of 5 stars Some excellent routes, 24 Sep 2007

I bought this book years ago, and its been very well used. I accept the comment that the maps aren't great. Don't even think about relying on the maps in the book, its essential you take along os maps as well.

The routes are hard to follow first time round, but are so good you will repeat them time and time again. I've ridden some of the routes dozens of times.

The book is all about showing you some routes to try. On that score its great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value and full of local knowledge, 26 Feb 2006
By S F Broomhead (Aston-on-Trent, Derbyshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I recently bought the Amended 2002 Edition. The book contains 25 circular routes in the Peak District and Derbyshire. Most are in the Peaks with a few in the south of the county. Each route is described in detail and I would recommend transferring the route onto an OS map prior to riding so you do not need stop every few miles.

The book looks dated and rather drab but do not let this put you off. The authors clearly know the area extremely well. They have selected paths that you would never find without local knowledge. The first route I selected looked tame enough but was a good blend of quiet lanes and technically challenging bridle ways.

All in all very good value.
