This is a handy little volume, with some great virtues and some vices. Firstly, it lists all the redundant, ruined and derelict churches as well as the ones in current use. It actually lists more churches than Munro Cautley's huge definitive survey of 1935. It also really is a pocket guide, easily fitting into a shirt or back-pocket. It includes unmissable features of each church, and, if it looks thin compared to D.P. Mortlock's guides, it carries more details than Pevsner... On the downside, it has several serious inaccuracies, which suggests that it has been partly compiled from other sources. For instance, it still lists the tower of Linstead Magna, which was demolished in 1964, and Mickfield as a working church, although it has been derelict since 1977. Excusable, perhaps, in Pevsner's 70s edition. But this book was published in the late 1990s. Also, despite being a guide to Anglican parish churches, it lists the Catholic Our Lady Star of the Sea in Lowestoft, and omits St Peter at Martlesham Heath, which was built in the 60s.
