The scope of this book is good, and the author's own skills are clearly highly developed. Unfortunately the detail in the book is thin and highly variable in its depth.

For basic DIY tasks, this book is adequate. The serious cabinetmaker though will find they very soon outgrow it.

I wouldn't recommend this book - read Flexner instead.

As a newcomer to this hobby, I needed a book that would cover all the basics, but not purely "skimming the surface" of the subject. This book was perfect for what I needed, and has filled me with the confidence I needed to take the next step into furniture restoration. The explanations were concise, and not full of jargon - everything is explained clearly and concisely, and the whole book is laid out in a sensible order.
