Derek Rowbottom uses construction techniques which do not presuppose a high level of previously aquired wood working skills. The result is a book which well suits the beginner in the Dolls-house/Miniatures field. The designs can, however, easily be adapted by those with woodworking skills who wish to build Miniatures in more conventional materials. Althought aspects of the architecture of the designs featured are a little short of authentic they are nevertheless effective. There are plenty of helpful construction hints for the beginner. Included at the start is a section with aspects of medieval building illustrated. This section is good in itself but it also serves as a pointer to those aspects of building detail to observe if a constructor wishes to produce original designs of their own.
On a purist note, the term "Tudor" is a misnomer. Buildings of the type illustrated are in existence from a greater span of time than that occupied by the Tudor period.
