5.0 out of 5 stars Musicians, not pop stars., 22 May 2003
I found this book an excellent read. For a band who don't turn up in newspapers or on television very often, this book answers a lot of questions about Kraftwerk's history and background, as well as documenting how the group works and who really pulls the strings. The album by album approach works really well, helping the reader to listen to the music from a sometimes different perspective. Finally, the book demonstrates the wide influence Kraftwerk had while also showing that not all music makers need be hyped up pop stars, and for some people, it really is about the music.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read!, 21 Sep 1999
Much better than Tim Barr's book on the same subject, since it doesn't waste space trying to tackle all the people and movements that were influenced by Kraftwerk. Also, the author managed to interview the members of the band, giving us a deep insight about how they see themselves. It's also a great book to be introduced to Kraftwerk's music, since it follows the band's career album by album. Wonderful, honest and serious work. Read it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so disappointing but not very informative, 29 Jun 2006

This is a factual book with little insider info. Chapters are organized mostly around their LPs and author analyzes them, some of the tours are mentioned but no details.

There is almost no info about recording equipment and methods, no info about equipment used on concerts and so on. I would agree that very little investigation was done and most of the things in book are well known facts. So, if you enjoy an easy read about your favourite band go for it. But it is one time only read.

A reasonable account of the aloof Kraftwerk band, some interesting titbits but overall fairly droll, something for the diehards.
