4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Starting Point For The New Jazz Player, 8 Jan 2001
By A Customer
I was recommended this book by my tutor, due to the fact that I love to play jazz. The book it self will work for Advanced players as well as these who are just starting with the trumpet, it covers the very basics of playing the instrument right through to the more advanced aspects of the use of mutes. The level of playing increases as you work through the book, and a CD accompanys all the scores, ranging from famous pieces, improvisation, to basic scales. An excellent choice to buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A complete method, 6 Oct 2003

(REAL NAME)
Having used the 'Jazz method for Alto Sax' i thought the clarinet/trumpet would be a great instrument to double on, O'Neill's Clarinet & trumpet Method again is great approach to learning what is essentially a dificult instrument in comparison to the sax. Using tunes i was already familiar with from his first method and new ones too meant the learning experience was as if i was covering familiar ground. O'Neill deals with the difficult area of crossing registers/techniques very well with many useful exercises to help develop this tricky technique as well as pictorial illustrations of where to play notes and alternative fingerings. Again the approach to learning is kept very gradual so as not to present to much of a challenge all at once. The Method is a must for any one wanting to double on clarinet or trumpet or for the first time learner.
