5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational and unique, 29 Jun 1999

A book that captures a unique moment in Scottish Mountaineering. Funny and witty, it shows the early climbing scene in Scotland as being a reflection and not escape, of wider social issues. Fascinating and informative it will inspire you to take to the hills...in the good old style!

5.0 out of 5 stars Chust Sublime, 30 Nov 2002
By John Duncan (Balfron, Stirling United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I read this book a number of years ago and it spurred me on to visit the wild places and the high tops as described by our two heroes. The book is written in an informal though highly descriptive manner and mirrors the spirit of all who love these places.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mountain Days & Bothy Nights, 24 Sep 2008

This book is brilliant! In fact, it's my favourite book in the world (closely followed by Borthwick's 'Always A Little Further'). It is hilarious! The authors have a very entertaining writing style. This book has quite literally lifted me out of severe depression in winter at the times when I haven't been able to get to the mountains.

It has also got me bothy-hunting. I don't stay in many but I do visit and 'keek into' a lot of them. Their descriptions of the various bothies in the Braemar area have enlivened my walks back down the glen after doing the Munros as I've always looked for whichever bothy was mentioned for that area (not that the Braemar glens aren't pretty in themselves). In fact, I've finally managed to track down where 'Corienalarig' bothy near Braemar was - the one which so terrified the 3 ghost-story telling bothiers years ago.
