5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect book for anyone curious about the cure!..., 1 Oct 2003
This book is absolutely the most clear, accurate and in deapth biography of the cure that money can buy - and I've read enough to know!

This is mainly due to the fact that, unlike most other Cure books available, Robert Smith played a large part in the actual writting of the book, so in a sense the facts are 'straight from the horses mouth' (as opposed the opinions of detached journalists). The book is packed with relevant and interesting pictures both in black and white and colour and many cuttings and reviews from newspapers at the time.

What stands out most about this book compared with other cure books I've read, is that the whole story is told through the eyes of people in (and close to) the band, from the beginings as The Easy Cure, to the release of Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me.

At the back of the book theres a full discography and little fact files and baby pictures (simon looks very cute!) of all the members and ex members of the band.

Worth every penny!

5.0 out of 5 stars For a Cure Fan... Just Like Heaven, 26 Aug 2003
I purchased this book many years ago (but it still lingers on a bookshelf somewhere) and at the time being a Cure fanatic at the end of the 80s this was THE place to find out about my goth guitar heroes. Its written by the music journalist Steve Sutherland, long time editor of the now defunct 'Melody Maker' and is therefore very well researched as well as having insight and direct quotes from the band. It also widely uses cut out articles from music publications of the time to quote what people said about them then.

The book documents the history of the Cure from their beginnings in the late 70s, rise and nearly fall again through the 80s. Unfortunately the book was written a while back and the history stops just before the recording of the Disintegration album so it covers the first 10 years... of course they are still going so perhaps part 2 is in order (ahem... Steve?).

The layout of the book is one of the best of its kinds and looks to have contributions from Porl Thompson and Undy Vella the guys who were doing Cure artwork in the 80s.

As far as im aware if you are after a decent biography of The Cure's (dare i say it) most productive years then this is the book to buy and no other.

Trust all previous reviews.

The book is good for the writing, the anecdotes, the pics and it's diaphanous enough not to get bored.

A classic.
