This book contains brief details of 246 separate dive sites - most of which are shipwrecks. With the Isle of Wight in the centre of the map, the district has been divided into 6 separate segments with each being covered in turn. Individual details include position and a brief description of both what will be found underwater plus the least possible detail of how the vessel was lost - if known. In addition there are useful chapters on the region itself, dive services (including boats, air and equipment) and a shipwreck register. In short, this is a real Diver's guide.

Any book which were to contain the fullest possible details of so many shipwrecks would be about the size of the Times Atlas so I found this particular book interesting on a number of different fronts. Firstly, for any diver visiting the area, it is an essential addition to their kit bag - as important as the diving gear itself. In addition, I would have thought it was as equally vital to those who know the area well and want to go searching for something new.

In my own case, I spend far more time immersed in shipwreck research than in actual diving. This is not surprising, when you consider how much time is actually possible on any particular wreck. As far as such study goes, this book provides exactly the right sort of information to start me off in whichever direction I may choose to take.

Altogether, a most useful book.
