5.0 out of 5 stars So easy even a child could use this book., 17 Sep 2000
By A Customer
I bought this book about 1 month prior to my trip to China. By the time I got there, I could count to 1000, ask directions and converse with shopkeepers. I didn't spend hours cramming. This book is so accessible that learning Mandarin was actually easy & fun. The beauty of this book is that it goes back to basics. Remember when you were a child & your mother used to flash words at you so that you could learn to read and spell them? This book uses exactly that principle. Simple phrases, flashcards and labels to teach vocabulary. Buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars First impressions after a week's study of Chinese., 6 May 2002

(REAL NAME)
I ordered this book because I need to learn a little Chinese before I start work there in about ten weeks' time. The "Ten minutes a day" tempted me in the first place as I have a full-time job. After a week I do feel I am beginning to make some progress but it's a lonely task and I wish there was an accompanying cassette or CD as I'm not too sure what a real Chinese man or woman would make of my efforts. Maybe I'll submit another review when I've tested the results. In any case the book lives up to its promise - the learning process is fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars colourful and fun to use, 2 Aug 2006
By mytwinsister (london, uk) - See all my reviews
Creatively written and very engaging, with lots of pictures and other activities to help seal the new information in your head. Comes with flashcards and pages of stickers to cover all the objects in your house with. No CD though, so worth getting this book in conjunction with another one which has audio, or you won't know whether you're pronouncing things correctly.
