3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, contains much speculation & some good facts., 4 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This book contains some wonderful information gleaned from the Harry Potter books. I particularly liked the itemized listings found in Appendix A & chapters 17 -19 where the first 3 novels are broken down chapter by chapter. The projects & discussion questions offered for each book are quite nice. However, where it runs into trouble for me, is when the author speculates and presents it as fact. For example..... The section dealing with Harry's teachers and the significance of their names was very disappointing. It is obvious here and elsewhere in the book that the author did not have access to J.K. Rowling. I found her explanation of Dumbledore's name as a contortion of "bumblebee" to be quite a stretch. Often her explanations of the "symbols" scattered throughout the book are also quite a stretch. All in all , I found the book useful. Just remember that a lot opinions are delivered as fact here. There is a reason that the book's cover prominently states "Not Approved by J.K. Rowling".
