1.0 out of 5 stars Fiction fit for pulping, 19 April 2006
By Mr. Gtj Charmley "gerardtjcharmley" (Cardiff, Wales) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book represents nothing more than an extended libel. Schulman's only source disowned the book, while a lawsuit by Jean Harlow's father resulted in an out-of-court settlement. Jean Harlow's first marriage lasted twenty months before ending in separation, not one night, for example. The account of her marriage to Paul Bern is absurd, the suggestion that her eventual death was caused by a beating he gave her is medically impossible, for example. The suggestion that Mama Jean was a fanatical Christian Scientist is contradicted by photographs that show her at home with bottles of pills in the background, not to mention the testimony of the Doctors who attended Jean Harlow's deathbed.

The whole tone of the book is that of a melodramatic novel. It's a pity that such a wonderful actress should have been dishonoured by a book like this.
