5.0 out of 5 stars Great Novel, 7 Jun 2006
By K. Tsembelis (Cambridge, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have always been a great fun of sci-fi novels. This book is great. It combines proper scientific facts, since it is written by one of the most known professors in the field of dynamic loading, together with some great ideas about how our world could end. A mixture of Mayan history and philosophical debates are present. Well done Marc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engineering Bodice-Ripper!, 13 Jul 2007
By W. G. Proud (Cambridge, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The author of Mayan Mars is an Engineering Professor from the University of California, San Diego. He has written several books, including both works of fiction and science, as well as a standard textbook for researchers.

In this novel he combines these two poles - giving scientifically accurate facts along with a picaresque story line concerning ego-blinded scientists, sex, violence, spacecraft engineering, genetic modification and a hefty dose of Mesoamerican prediction.

It moves quickly with murder, seduction, tragedy and a meeting of three academics that involves more action than the average scene from Reservoir Dogs! ...all within the first 50 pages. It then settles down into a well-paced thriller.

Worth reading - you betcha!!!
