Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The New York Times dubbed the 2001 Passport to World Band Radio as the "TV Guide for world-band radios," and that's a fairly accurate assessment Have a desire to be apprised of political developments in Swaziland or the Philippines? Wish to stay current on sports scores in Sweden or Uruguay? Then perhaps it's time to tune in to world-band radio, already heard by 600 million people around the world. Passport to World Band Radio, 1999 can show you how.Passport is dense--it's much heavier than its compact size suggests--with articles, program lists, equipment descriptions, and the Blue Pages, a comprehensive channel-by-channel guide to world-band schedules. Whether you are new to short-wave radio or a long-time listener, Passport is your ticket to adventure on the world's airwaves. --Brenda Pittsley --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your international Short Wave guide receivers companion !, 19 Mar 2001
Fore many years we have included this book in our club "bookstore". Even it is in english, we have many French speaking international listeners who ordered it. It is the only complete guide for Short Wave broadcasting. We appreciate all different chapters, mainly the receivers and accessories review, the stations addresses with many comments and useful informations, but the most (or "must"!) unseful is the "blue pages" with the list, frequency by frequency, from 0000 to 2400 UT, of all we can listen in the domestic and international broadcasting on short wave. And you can use it anywhere in the world. More, the quality and precision of information are a "plus".

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't do without it, 7 Feb 2000
By A Customer
If you are fed up listening to hissing, crackles and pops or something in Arabic (when you can just about handle English), you have to get this book. While its not cover to cover fantastic, it is the SWL's bible, worth the money for the blue pages alone. Complete (almost) listing for English and domestic language broadcasts. When I want to listen to something, I go to the book first rather than the radio dial.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitive guide to shortwave listening, 26 Jan 1999
By A Customer
Magne is pretty fanatical about world band listening, and that works to the reader's advantage. The hour-by-hour listings of what's on for each of the major (and not so major) international broadcasters really helps me get my money's worth out of my receiving equipment. I do not use the blue pages, which sort broadcasters by frequency rather than time, since I am mostly a casual broadcast listener, but they would be invaluable to a DX'er. My favorite section, every year, is the receiver reviews, since there's so little objective analysis of the hardware available anywhere else, and a poor receiver means you may stop listening to shortwave altogether. This book is well worth the money for any regular world band listener.
