5.0 out of 5 stars What a gem., 20 Aug 2001

(REAL NAME)
Do not be put off by the title, the recipes in this book cover every aspect of ranch-country cooking from breads right through to sweets. All recipes are very uncomplicated and use a minimum of easily available ingredients, but the end result never disapoints - the recipe for baked ham alone is worth the price of the book. As there are concerns over the use of monosodium glutomate,I simply omit this ingredient when called for in a recipe with no apparent loss of flavour. Not only is this an excellent cook-book,it also provides an insight into life on the wagon train, the range cook and his/her cooking techniques from the turn of the century right up to the present day. This book is a must for anyone with an interest in American home cooking or outdoor cooking.
