5.0 out of 5 stars Definitive History of Offshore Pirate Radio, 29 Jan 2010
This excellent and comprehensive book is strongly recommended for all who remember that 'Golden Age' of free radio when the ships and forts gave us, the people of the UK, the opportunity to hear the music we wanted to hear when we wanted to hear it.
It covers all the famous stations and gives insights into both the lives of those who ran and worked on them and technical details of how the station operated.
The book covers the events and even includes the text of the infamous Act of Parliament that silenced the stations.
It also has information about life after the Act was passed and how Caroline carried on and others came and went.
For all who want to know the fascinating history of how the government was forced to allow commercial radio and provide the audiences in Britian with the entertainment it had been denied, this is the book to buy.
If you don't remember the excitement of those early pioneers, then this is still a book to read. It will tell you how today's broadcasters owe so much to those who fought the 'Establishment' to get the freedom we now take for granted.
The lesson of the fight for freedom is always one to be savored.
It is difficult to see how a better example could be found in our recent history.
