5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, 13 Jun 2004
By G. P. Hudson (Forest Row, East Sussex United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Those at all interested in the world of international photography and celebrity need to get this eclectic, dynamic study of the world's most famous camera shop, which is a "business biography" in essence, but in practical terms is also a socio-political review, a technical history of Nikon, and so much more.

Elegantly written, masterfully designed, meticulously researched and magnanimously presented, it's a coffee table book to be found in the homes of the rich and famous and a conversation piece for those in the know.

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars History of a uniuely succesful specialised retail business, 16 Jun 2004
By A T KOWAL (Japan & UK) - See all my reviews
A beautifully presented and fascinating book outlining the birth and development of a single brand (Nikon) photographic retailer.

The book not only reads well and presents a fascinating insight into the history of Nikon and of the superlative retail business (Grays) but also presents the reader with a case study in the development of a world class store of the highest service values.

The book draws on the experience of well known clients and associates of Grays and weaves their comments into the fabric of this remarkable work.

Gillian Greenwood's engaging prose melds beautifully with some wonderful photographs to create a work which is surely a "must read" not only for lovers of photography and photographic hardware but for those wishing to learn how to build a superlative business.

Congratulations!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Success!, 5 Jan 2007
The expectations of those reviewers who found this book disappointing were surely misplaced - the tile and cover picture alone should be sufficient to make it quite clear this book is about the conception and evolution of Grays of Westminster, a business that enjoys a world-wide reputation, and not the Nikon Corporation and its products; if you seek information about the latter then look elsewhere.

This book charts the rise of a business success story based on traditional values and service of the highest standard - qualities that lamentably are so often lacking in the retail world of today. If you wish to learn about a unique tributary of the "Nikon story", or how to build a successful business I recommend it!
