Product Description

Book Description

Fiona Ritchie Walker’s first full-length collection is at different times serious and playful, a Tyneside poet whose subject matter embraces love, sex, her sense of place, termites, railway journeys, and learning to dance the St. Bernard. The poet's local library boasts a stone head of Garibaldi, prompting Fiona Ritchie Walker to wonder (poetically) about the rest of him.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tremendous talent, 24 May 2005
By A Customer
This collection of short poems covers a huge amount of ground in terms of form, style and content. There are plenty of funny poems, some saucy ones (and her a vicar's wife!) and some achingly sad and poignant ones. All of them are fresh and perceptive and their images stay with you long after you put down the book.
More please, Fiona.

5.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Class, I couldn't put it down!!, 29 Jun 2005

This is a literary piece of genius!! Walker's ability to seduce the senses is like that of someone who has been writing for years. The powerful language encapsulates the real essence of the North East and it's people. Opening the cover of Garibaldi's Legs is like stepping through the wardrobe door into Narnia. It is hard to believe that there is such a big world hidden in the engrossing 62 pages that this book has to offer. I have just about come back to earth since finishing this amazing read and eagerly await Fiona Ritchie Walker's next addition to her growing reputation as one of the North East's best writers.
If poetry is the food of love, Keep writing!!
