1.0 out of 5 stars Verbose and boring plus shoddy manufacture, 22 Dec 2007
By P. Carney (Hastings, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A rambling long-winded account lacking any interesting detail. I was looking for accounts of polar overwinterings after reading "Arctic explorations: The second Grinnell expedtion in search of Sir John Franklin, 1853,54,55" by Elisha Kent Kane, which is a much thinner and far better book. In contrast "Through the First Antarctic Night" is largely impressionistic padding. This book is a badly scanned photocopy of an out of copyright book. The photographic plates are so dark as to be useless. Numerous of the pages are illegible due to having been moved while being scanned. In short it's a bad reproduction of a boring book.
