An anthology of current writing from Perth & Kinross, 29 Jun 1999
By A Customer
The "Keekin Gless" means a mirror and comes from a poem by William Soutar (1898 - 1943), one of Scotland's foremost poets of the first half of the 20th century, and a close friend of Hugh MacDiarmid. This is an anthology of writing from authors, both new and well known, within Perth & Kinrosss. It includes short stories and poetry, as well as an introductory essay by Robert Alan Jamieson on the literary history of Perth & Kinross. It includes a short story by the winner of Macallan/Scotland on Sunday award, Linda Cracknell, as well as contributions from the two editors Robert Alan Jamieson and Carl MacDougall, both of whom have been holders of the William Soutar Writer's Fellowship. One of the poems by Jean Massie has been selected by the Scottish Arts Council for "Poem of the Month" on the SAC's website. The range of material is immense from schoolchildren to mature authors, covering a wide range of literary abilities and showing a diverse approach to material written in both Scots and English. The book is published by Perth & Kinross Libraries with the assistance of the Scottish Arts Council.
