Synopsis
Born in 1891, Fred Kitchen moved to the West Riding of Yorkshire as a young boy and spent a happy childhood in the countryside. In his autobiography, he recreates village life - the Christmas parties at the great house, the divisions between "genteel" Anglicans and "ranter" Methodists, the respectability of the villagers under the scrutiny of landlord, clergyman and schoolmaster - and goes on to describe the working life of an agricultural labourer.

Gritty, earthy, early twentieth century story of interlect overcoming povery and hardship. Rivetting read, watched the companion docudrama by YTV. Brilliant! 5Star
