5.0 out of 5 stars A superb big book for 5-8 year-olds, 7 Jan 2002
By A Customer
Shompa is a seven year-old girl who lives in a village called Canning, south of Calcutta in India. This big book focuses on Shompa's day-to-day life and provided many opportunities for parents and teachers to encourage their children to compare their lives with Shompa's.

The book is beautifully written with fantastic, colourful photos and pictures. The double-page spread of a diagram of Shompa's village is particularly beautiful and could provide many ideas for lessons.

I also particularly like the focus on religion and the simple explanation regarding the importance of cows to the Hindu religion.

This is a must-have book for all KS1 and 2 teachers as well as many parents. It even comes with teachers' notes!
