Product Description

Synopsis

The Doulton Lambeth Wares by Desmond Eyles is the classic reference book on the products of Royal Doulton's famous factory in London but the original edition has been out of print for many years. A new edition, revised by Louise Irvine, will be published in the late autumn 2000 and will be even more useful for collectors of nineteenth and twentieth century Lambeth wares. There will be more than 400 colour illustrations featuring designs by leading studio artists such as Tinworth, the Barlow sisters, Marshall, Pope and Butler, as well as many examples by lesser known assistants. All the different types of Doulton Lambeth wares will be depicted in full colour, for example stoneware, faience, chine and hunting ware, so that collectors can identify pieces when they appear on the market. The new edition will also be fully indexed with detailed sections on marks and monograms making it the most comprehensive book ever published on the subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitive Doulton - and well worth the wait!, 3 April 2002
By A Customer
This is the book to complement any Doulton stoneware collection; the original, out-of-print version was excellent, but was like watching black-and-white TV compared to a modern full-colour digital set.

Flicking through the pages, I was immediately enchanted by page upon page of beautiful pots. The photographs alone merit the price, but then there is the history (fascinating), and details of the many Lambeth potters. There is an extensive section giving the marks of individual potters. Douton pots are well marked and are individually designed pieces: perhaps that is what makes collecting them so intruiging.

This book has been a long time coming, but at last it is here. If you love your Doulton, you won't be disappointed.
