4.0 out of 5 stars British Light Music by Philip Scowcroft, 7 April 2009
By P. R. Worsley (Cheltenham, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Released by erstwhile Thames Publishing in 1997 this is the only book of its kind. Devoted entirely to Light Music composers there are 30 main chapters plus pen portraits of many more. What is pleasing is the social background painted for each musician, interwoven with a selection of their major works. No serious student of music should be without it because this genre was the staple diet of Britain for the first 60 years of the 20th Century.
