Not hot on photographs or illustrations but a fascinating insight into the operation of the Abbey. Did you know Beckett Park and Roundhay park were granges of the Abbey? Neither did I, but find out more facts like that in this interesting historical survey.

This book is an excellent scholarly study of this long-neglected, yet historically interesting Cistercian abbey. Based on first-rate research it should prove useful to students and scholars, yet has enough genral information to be of interest to the general reader and local historian. Thoroughly recommended!

It's thorough, readable and as well as providing a narrative of Kirkstall's history, addresses some of the key debates surrounding medieval monasticism in the UK. Well referenced. A mine of information for scholars, local historians and readers with a general interest.
