I learned something on every page; its practical, readable and focused.

Andrew Heavens, FT On-Line, September 2004
The book deals with a subject of general interest and it takes a striking, interesting angle on that subject.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for all directors and CEOs, 12 Nov 2004
This is easy to read and packed full of useful references, case studies and philosophy for leaders of business. Indeed, if more directors took the time to read books such as this and reflect on their own behaviour, the image and trust levels of business would be much improved.

I particulary liked the distinction between values and virtues and the idea of leadership of businesses as stewardship. Having seen too many 'bosses' and not enough 'leaders' in my own career, this book confirms the requirement for managers in the UK to re- evaluate what their true role in an organisation is. Could be useful for certain politicians as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Practical and Relevant Book, 30 Mar 2005
This is not a book about theory or management speak. It is a down to earth approach which focuses on the role of directors as leaders with a value base who are responsible to stakeholders, shareholders and employees alike. It is especially valuable as a workbook for boards worried about the real use of risk management and governance while their organisations are undergoing change. As a chief executive of a NGPB I intend to use the book as a basis for discussing with other directors how we continue to develop as a team.

It is an easy read and can be tackled over a weekend. This book plus the course "Inspiring Leadership" run by the Trinity Forum have been the only two development tools that have helped me focus on my own leadership in a positive and creative way.
