2.0 out of 5 stars This book will irritate Lugosi fans, 10 Dec 1999
By A Customer
I expected this book to be a detailed account of the films these two stars made together. To an extent it is, the sections on their best films together eg."The Raven" "The Black Cat" "The Invisible Ray" and "Son of Frankenstein" are entertaining but frustrating in that they reveal very little that wasn't already well known by fans. My main criticism is the way the author constantly harps on about the tragedy of Lugosi's life. This approach is typical of many authors who have tried to chronicle the life of the star. Mank states that he admires Karloff tremendously and his bias does his book no favours. What is really needed is a book which celebrates the legends of Karloff and Lugosi and provides more of an insight into their work together. This was a wasted opportunity.
