5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book I have ever read, 19 Sep 2002
By S. Pipalia "pipalia" (UK) - See all my reviews

This is an amazing book by a person who has achieved the impossible (or what we conceived as impossible). He has climbed many mountains without oxygen and this book describes some of the techniques he uses to do this. It also describes the length of the climb and routes in detail and who climbed which mountain and when. One thing I love about this book is the amazing pictures. I might use some of these pictures as posters for my room.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mountaineering of the highest order, 12 May 2005
By R. Medlicott-revell "Rich Med-Rev" (Hull East Yorks UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
No one with any form of interest in high mountains can fail to be impressed by Messner's climbing achievements and this book compiles them accordingley.
My only gripe with the contents is that not enough detail and personal feeling surrounding each mountain success, it is just too clinical in the style of writing for my tastes.
Despite this I would confidently recommend the book to prospective buyers, for an outline of one mountaineer making climbing history.

5.0 out of 5 stars All 14 Eight-Thousanders, 23 Dec 2003
5 Stars ???? , more like 1 million and 5 stars. No words, I'm afraid to attempt a description as it may break the spell of this magnificent book, just buy and enjoy.
