Product Description

Flow is the sense of inspired freedom that comes when one is lost in an activity, allowing time, duty and worry to melt away. For writers, words pour out in a continuous, creative stream. This book shows writers how to achieve a sense of flow.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent inspiration for writers!, 9 Jun 1999
By A Customer
I had read Csikszentmihalyi's books and was delighted to find a book that addressed FLOW specifically for writers. This book turned out to be better than I expected. Wonderful details and quotes by authors and poets. So much of it resonated with my own experience with writing. I even read some quotes to my students in journal writing class. I wish I could read all the work by authors she interviewed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read When Your Writing Isn't Flowing, 9 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Perry gives us fascinating interviews with successful writers, in which we get to see that they're not so different from the rest of us, they've just learned how to make it easier for themselves. This book reveals tricks and guidelines for getting your writing moving. It's a great book to read when you need encouragement and support as a writer.

1.0 out of 5 stars Single Minded, 1 April 2007
By G. M. Phillips "goldhart" (In a deep dark cave) - See all my reviews

I was hoping for a book that would, as the subtitle says "enhance creativity". Unfortunately, this is a single-minded discussion about flow, as if that is the be-all and end-all of writing problems. I read the first two chapters, waiting patiently for some kind of useful insight, but none came. I was hoping for a discussion and set of tips about how to pace a story, how to generate ideas, how to inspire yourself, but none of this came.

I can only assume the positive reviews here are by people selling their books on Amazon, where a negative review wouldn't help their sales, but that's just my cynical opinion.

I think you can always judge the long-term usefulness of a book by the quantity of books on sale second-hand in Amazon, and the low price of it - ie. this is a book you'd hardly keep as a reference guide, because it actually contains no useful ideas.
