From the Author
An explanation of what my book is about, who it might help.
Last year, Writer's Digest Books asked me to put together a resource guide for writers who would be covering Hollywood as reporters or using the movie and TV industry as background in their fictional work. I've covered the industry as a journalist or worked inside it as a script writer, producer and in other capacities for nearly thirty years, and know the town inside and out, so I agreed. But as I outlined the book and did my research, it expanded into a book that I believe will also be useful to anyone who wants to work inside the film and TV community in just about any capacity. It's loaded with lists of special resources, Hollywood web sites, networking organizations, specialty libraries, glossary of professional terms, studios and production companies (with phone numbers and addresses), job descriptions and salaries, and so on, as well as individual chapters on the history of the TV and film business, the geography, the lifestyle, the media and publicity machine, etc. I'm pleased that's it's selling extremely well in Los Angeles, but I also feel it will be useful to anyone anywhere who wants to know how Hollywood works, from the inside out, in a very practical, detailed, concrete manner.
