Product Description

Product Description

In this classic text, wing chun master William Cheung unravels the mystery behind the elusive energy of chi. He provides exercises to increase and direct the flow of chi and explains how chi affects the body, the philosophy behind the famous yin-yang symbol, pressure points and the 32 meridians, the principles behind dim mak (the often misunderstood 'death touch'), and more. This book is a must-read not only for kung fu practitioners but also for anyone interested in Eastern philosophy.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book is Excellent!, 12 Jun 1999
By A Customer
Master Cheung has written about Chi development using special breathing and pressure point techniques, as well as Wing Chun Kuen forms. However, he sticks to point of Chi development, which is good, and explains the whole process very well. The thing I really liked was that the pictures showed which way the Chi(internal strength) was flowing during execution of each technique, and this was a real help in learning how I was improving. A must for the beginner in Wing Chun Kungfu, and for the martial artist wanting an easy way to develop his Chi

2.0 out of 5 stars Too much padding, 20 Nov 2003
This book has some reasonable points, mainly in the photographs of partner drills. The first form is photographed to excess to show the direction of chi flow in the trunk and limbs during execution and this takes up a substantial portion of the books content. I later bought 'Why Wing Chun Works' by Alan Gibson and realised just how much infomation you could get into a small book when no padding techniques were used. If you want to cultivate your 'chi', buy 'The Way of Energy' by Lam Kam Chuen. If you want to learn basic Wing Chun, buy 'Why Wing Chun Works' by Alan Gibson. I have both of these and they are good reads and good references.

3.0 out of 5 stars Quite good just not for me, 11 Jun 2009

(REAL NAME)
On the whole this book was not much use to me personally but that is not to say it is not a good book. The explanation of chi is wonderful but the explanation of the exercises are not for beginners. I have never studied wing chun before and hoped the book would help get me into it as i am a returning matial artist looking to try new arts. The reson I marked it down is the book does not give full explanation on how the pressure points work, only a breif overview and the exercises can be difficult to follow having never done Wing Chun. Otherwise not bad
