5.0 out of 5 stars one in a thousand!, 11 Jun 1999
By A Customer
One of the very few books on Martial Arts which go beyond the "naked" presentation of techniques. Bruce Lee explains tactics - things which help integrate the individual skills into an effective way of fighting. Although there are some "low-level" explanations of the simple kicks and punches (of which the most famous are his lead-hand attack and low-level side kick), the focus is definitely on how to use them in a fight, in response to the actions of your opponent. Reminds me of Musashi's "Book of Five Rings" - I would read one page, then sweat over it for weeks or even months, until the knowledge becomes reflex. As a peculiarity, the round kick is called "hook-kick", but the explanations and the pictures eliminate the possible confusion.

5.0 out of 5 stars The defintive guide to hand to hand combat, 23 Mar 1999
By A Customer
This book seems to act as a summary to Lee's Tao of Jeet Kune Do, many training and fighting ideas being depicted in the book, but going into nowhere near as much detail. Although i'm not a Jeet Kune Do student, the techniques in the book are easily applicable to my gung fu training; the book is well laid out, but I would not recommend this book to pure beginners, try volume 1 first. This series of books was actually written by Lee, making it an invaluable part of any fighter's book collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent techniques, 12 Nov 2003
By I. Brooks (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The second book in the JKD series.
This is an excellent book that is an absolute must if you are looking into Lee's formless art.

It takes the basics of what you learn from "Bruce Lee's Fighting Method: Basic Training" and goes one step further. Its describes brilliantly how to execute various techniques, it explains the origin and adaptations of techiniques from other arts (most notably the sticky hands techniques of Wing Chun) and why they have been incorporated.

It emphasises time and again how you should carry these techniques out, explains how they should feel to you and others, and goes into detail about what state you should be in while practicing the different types of techniques.

Deffinately a must.
