For the layperson who wants to know just how sanely the 'Dr Strangeloves' who actually have nuclear release codes think, this is the volume to have.

It is written for the intelligent layman and gives the facts, stark and chilling. All the more so because the people who plan nuclear war are, in everyday life, no different to you or me. Yet, somehow they can plan Armageddon with the same clinical detachment as they might plan a weekend at the beach.

The clarity and authority of the text place this work alongside that of Sagan and Turco (A Path Where No Man Thought) and Richard Rhodes (Dark Sun.
