5.0 out of 5 stars This could be titled "Yamaha Outboards for Dummies", 29 Oct 2001
By A Customer
As a newcomer to outboard motors I was half expecting a dull tome full of technical jargon and mystifying descriptions. Yes - the jargon is there - but the book is so crammed with extremely clear, labelled photos and drawings that anyone would be able to quickly identify their own engine and have a good stab at services or repairs with a minimum of tools and equipment. And don't worry about safety. The authors have gone overboard (excuse the pun) to make sure that every possible safety aspect is covered and warnings are liberally scattered throughout.
The text is clear and concise and is set out in paragraphs which relate to the numbered pictures. I have already saved myself the cost of the book by putting into practice a few of the recommendations for smoother and more efficient running of the engine and my 5HP two-stroke is purring like the proverbial cat. There are also useful tips and procedures to get the very best out of your engine both in and out of the water.
I recommend this book without reservation and I am sure that both amateur and professional mechanic (or just a plain old tinkerer like myself) will find this an invaluable aid.
If there is to be a criticism, it is that the paper quality is not so hot - more like newsprint than heavy grade book material, but there are so many pages (it's a big, big, book) that to produce it any other way would have doubled the size, the weight and the price.
My advice - Go get it.
