5.0 out of 5 stars Gets you moving, 7 Oct 2007
By anna (Somerset, UK) - See all my reviews
Like most people who write poetry, I find there are barren periods which can be frightening: you feel you will never write again.

This book will get you moving. You hitch a ride on others' imagination, and before you know it, you're moving under your own steam.

The poem prompts are mostly simple, but thought provoking. They help you tap into your own experience. They also teach you about the stuff of poetry - imagery, structure, sound.

The suggestion that you copy the poem prompts by hand is a valuable one. You absorb the essence of the poem - how it is made as as well as what it says. Then you are free to expand into your own creation - which, though it owes much to the prompt, is nevertheless truly your own.

A very valuable book for all aspiring writers.
