3.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, but does not delve in deep enough, 22 Jan 2003
This book is very well written, explaining the TDMA technology in a clear and understandable manner. The book steps through the emergence of the mobile industry, the AMPS standard and its evolution towards the IS-136 standard. A couple of chapters then provide an insight into the considerations and cost implications a mobile operator must account for when planning and implementing a network. However, there is hardly any information on the revised standard, IS-136B. This book is excellent for someone with no or little background knowledge with regards to cellular networks, and is looking to gain a good understanding without going into the specifics. The book was an easy read and enjoyable. I personally was looking for a description of the IS-41 core network, the interfaces between network elements, and a description of the protocol stacks and parameters employed in such networks. In summary, this book is sligthly dated and not really suitable for engineers, but sales and marketing personnel requiring some kind of knowledge of the TDMA technology, this book is worthwhile.
