Another compulsive read, 6 Mar 2004
Lisanne Norman (Turning Point, Fortune's Wheel, Fire Margins) has a hit series on her hands. The first book in the Sholan Alliance (turning point) details the first meeting of Kusac Aldatan, a Sholan telepath, and Carrie, a human woman with the "gift" of being joined mentally with her twin sister. The book was enjoyable reading and used a very easy to read style. Some have called it amateurish, I just call it a good story. The second book, Fortune's wheel, takes us aboard the Khalossa and ultimately to Shola where Carrie must learn what it means to be leska to a Sholan male and member of the telepath guild. Now in Fire Margins, this author has hit her stride. Full of wonderful ideas like gods and goddesses that were once ordinary people, and viruses that mutate DNA to produce Sholan/Human hybrids, Fire Margins is a book to keep and return to. I loved it. I particularly liked the way the God Vartra was (1500 years ago) Doctor Vartra, a Sholan geneticist with a psychic gift for making his genetic experiments "work" the way he wants them to, not the way nature "says" they shouldn't. When you buy this (you are, going to buy this) set aside plenty of time, because you will not want to do anything else until you finish it.
