Product Description

Product Description
This text shows how safety assurance is actually performed in industry. It moves from hazard identification to frequency and probability analysis and, finally, to consequence analysis. Considerable attention is given to HAZOP techniques, and an extensive discussion of failure-mode-effects analysis (FMEA). As an aid to the student, example problems are provided at the end of the book. Though written as an undergraduate textbook, the publication should be useful to all engineers involved in safety, particularly those who have not had formal training in the techniques of safety analysis. The basic techniques described should also be of interest to anyone concerned with safety in the process and related industries.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to safety for chemical engineers, 3 Jul 2001
By A Customer
Bob Skelton has written an excellent book on the topic of safety for those who are students of chemical engineering. He uses his experience in industry combined with ten years of teaching students at the University of Cambridge to outline the topics of interest. His coverage of the legislative background is well organised and authoritative. His chapter on HAZOP is clear and benefits from long experience. However it is in it's treatment of the analysis of hazards that this book stands out. It is well explained, uses the apropriate level of mathematical complexity whilst remaining rooted in reality. This book deserves to be widely read and in common use for university courses in chemical engineering.
