1.0 out of 5 stars Out of touch and out of date, 22 Jun 2005
I bought this book mistakenly thinking that a 1989 print date would surely be a pre-cursor to several reprints and updates. No such luck and I can see why.

This should belong in a museum and certainly not be treated as an up to date travel guide. It is effortlessly prissy, prosaic and condescending all in one. E.g. - It even assumes that right hand drive vehicles will be a nightmare, forgetting that not everyone drives as in the US. The campsite addresses are out of date and the information about the state of the roads and volume of traffic are woefully inaccurate now. And please completely disregard the prices, as these are more irrelevant than an underwater hairdryer. There are even plans of outdated models of campervans and the equipment they (used to) have. There should be an "anachronism" warning on this book.

Avoid completely if you want to travel in New Zealand post 1989!! Pointless...completely pointless...
