5.0 out of 5 stars Chesters book changes the way you think of independence, 24 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Out of the many books available to drummers of the subject of co-ordinated independence (getting all your limbs to work independently) I have read none better than New Breed. Focusing on the "new breed" of drummers as he calls it, it teaches co-ordinated independence for drummers in a more straight 8th rock setting. It starts iff with a set of exercises moving from two limbs to four limbs, and then he introduces a new virtual limb - your voice. Upon setting up a simple triplet feel bass and hi hat groove, he has a whole list of various exercises to do with the hands. Upon getting better at these, the idea is that you sing the beats you are playing. Home in on one limb and sing it. In this way you really get a feel for what you are actually playing, and this is often different to what you brain thinks you actually are playing. This book will totally change the way you think about drumming. Your ability will improve within days of practising these exercises and your versatility will improve as well. Well done Gary.
